As a part of the run-up campaign to India
Denim Day, an awareness session was organized at Leela Dyeing,
Amritsar. The session was conducted by Mr. Manish Kumar from SYPM,
Technical Support Unit, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
Mr. Bijoy Chauhan, helped us in reaching out to Leela Dyeing at Amritsar.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar of Leela Dyeing was very forthcoming
about taking the lead in getting the awareness sessions organized at their
company and extending their support in taking this initiative further.
The session was conducted with a group of around 20 shop-floor workers of
the company, in which the participants were provided with information on
HIV and AIDS.
Here are some of the shots from the session: |

Two workers, who are very
knowledgeable, have been identified in Leela Dyeing, to be matured as a Peer educator. The workers shall be
provided further training by SPYM to work as peer educators so that the awarenes campaign can be taken forward on
a continuous basis.
The promoters of Leela Dyeing are very supportive of the initiative, and appreciated that this will enable the
industry to make it possible to check the spread of HIV in the worker community, and also, in the long run, make
it possible for the industry to create employment opportunities for infected persons, thus enabling them to live a
normal self-sustaining life. |
